A short Review about my Country Philippines , Values & Traits
The Philippines is an archipelago lying southeast of the coast of the mainland of Asia. It is located a little above the equator and thus belongs to the northern hemisphere . Philippines has approximately 7,100 island and islets that compose the archipelago , some 4,000 remain no name, and surrounded about 26,000 square kilometers of coral reef, as the Southeast Asian coral reefs Philippines have the highest levels of biodiversity for the world's marine ecosystems. They serve many functions, such as forming the of livelihood for subsistence fishermen and even function as jewelry and construction materials.
Fishing is the major occupation on the island, and even those who do not fish, rely on the catch for their protein. So when a fisherman's catch began shortening, after years of unregulated fishing, it was very easy for them to resort to destructive methods of fishing,
The people - The Filipino's people today are not pure Malay. They are a mixture of races. This came out abut when foreigners came to these shores either to trade or to conquer the natives. Thus ,some natives intermarried with the Chinese , a few with the Japanese ,some with the Indians from India, many with the Spaniards and later, with the Americans. The mixture of native or Malay and a foreigner, whether Chinese , Spanish, or Americans ,is called mestizo .In spite of this mixture of races in the present Filipino people, the majority belongs to the
Malay race.
Malay race.
The Filipino people have many common traits. Perhaps the most important trait of the Filipino is his hospitality , He welcomes visitors , whether Filipino or non Filipino, with open arms ans a warm heart. He gives his visitors the best in his house and he would go to the extent of incurring debts to make his visitors contented ,happy and comfortable .Filipino hospitality is known the world over and is difficult to equal.
The Filipino has come close family ties. The family is the unit of society and consist at least until very recent times, of the parents the grandparents and the children. The head of the family is the father , but it i really the mother who governs. The mother is everything to everybody in the family: she is the first teacher of the children , she is the treasurer of the home, she is the accountant, the censor, the laundrywoman , and the cook. Thus in many Filipino families even the father calls the wife "Mama" or the "Mommy" he dutifully hands over his salary of earnings to the wife who, in case of the father's illness. works to support the whole family .The problem of the family is not the problem of the parents alone; They are the problems of all the adult members of the family. If Juana, one of the children , wants to continue her studies in the High school, the older brothers and sisters help the parents in educating her, If she finds employment she in turn helps parents , brothers and sister to educate the younger children. Thus , there is cooperative work within the family circle.
Respect for the elders
is one of the Filipino traits . The Filipino parents exercise a moral influence over their children . The latter obey heir parents willingly and help them in their work. The younger men and women do not, as a rule disturb their elders when the latter are talking or conversing with other people . Even among strangers, respect is shown by Filipinos by bowing to them or by using some words of respect. The Tagalog "po " is commonly used by almost everybody to show resoect even to a younger man ( or woman ) if the latter is a stranger.

The Filipino is sentimental
. This sentimentalism is shown in many ways for example, a man from one province who pays his friend from another province a visit feels deeply his departure from his friend's house . He does not forget kindness ,whether this is shown by a friend or by a stranger. The friend who is left behind also feels sad. He sends his departing friend what is called pabaon . or something to give to his family. On the other hand, the visiting friend brings along with him gifts are called pasalubong. The parting of friends and the mebers of a family is a painful experience to every Filipino.Leaving home for another country or even within the Philipines is always sad and is accompanied by much crying and silent weeping .

Filipino Values - Filipinos as a people have values. Values are those things of life, such as customs, usage ,traditions, etc , which the people regard as necessary and important in thier dealings with one another. One of these values is pakikisama or sense of togetherness or comradeship .Pakikisama consist of doing somebody a good deed, such as helping a man build a house without asking for compensation, or helping a man look for a job, and so on. If he does these ans other similar things, he is said to be mabuting makisama .If he does the opposite, he is called masamang makisama . Pakikisama does not mean doing crooked or dishonest, things in order to look good to others. Pakikisama is a positive value and means doing somebody a good turn.
Utang na Loob Or Debt of gratitude is one another famous Filipino value. A person who receives favor from another, whether this is a friend or a stranger,is expected to pay this dept of gratitude by doing the same, or more. to the man who has done him some good deed or who has done him a favor. A man who is spite of having been helped by a friend , refuses to help the latter when his need arises is called walang utang na loob or ingrate. People despise this man ad is hated for his lack of utang na loob.
Hiya or Kahihiyan is another Filipino values. It means a sense of shame. To the Filipino, as to other Oriental peoples hiya is something that a person must possess to a high degree. He who does not have hiya is called walang hiya or shameless. Because of this value, a Filipino would do something foolish in order to save face. Thus because of hiya a Filipino peasant. Although he has no money from and is living in poverty .
And As a general description, the distinct value system of Filipinos is rooted primarily in personal alliance systems, especially those based in kinship, obligation, friendship, religion (particularly Christianity), and commercial relationships.

As common Filipino's Values ,Belief and traits
- Flexibility / Adaptability / Resiliency - the Filipinos have the trait to laugh at themselves and their misfortunes or failures. This is a coping mechanism to balance emotional stress and to boost the capacity to survive. They can smile in midst of problems and hardships. They can still crack jokes despite the stresses of their daily lives and during calamities. They are strong and cheerful people.
- Ingenuity and Creativity - they are good inventors. They often improvise and make productive use of available resources.
- Patience and Self-sacrifice - a remarkable quality of a Filipino is his capacity to endure difficulties and hardships. Maybe related to the long suffering they endured during the many colonization in Philippine history. They are patient enough to wait for their turn to be blessed with greener pastures as long as they do what is right and good.
- Hard work and Industry - Filipinos are globally recognized for their excellent performance in any physical and technical tasks. Maybe visible due to the desire for economic security and advancement for one’s self and family.
- Fairness and Justice – they always show concern for the well-being of others. They uphold the humanity of all people and regard everyone with respect and empathy. They are keen on interpersonal relationships, their primary source of security and happiness.Fairness & Justice –> Equality –> Social Justice –> Development & Progress.
- Readiness to Share and Help - they re always ready to lend a hand, not only in times of need (calamities or disasters) but also in festive occasions (“fiestas”, baptisms and weddings). The “bayanihan” spirit, or giving help without expecting something in return, of a Filipino is widely admired.
Proud to be a pinoy <3
